Many people ask is God real or not? Does God exist? Is there evidence for God? Is God alive or dead?
Proof of God’s existence:
A recovering atheist once believed that he was too smart to believe in fairy tales. One day he was invited to attend church with a family member for a wedding service and everything changed. During the service he felt guilty over sin and he was amazed by the awesome love and compassion of God found in Jesus Christ. After the service, he was bombarded by many questions in his mind such as, where did we come from? Is there really a God in heaven?
After weeks of struggling with questions, he bowed his head and asked for forgiveness for his pride. He opened his eyes and he felt an overwhelming sense of peace unlike anything he has ever experienced. He knew from that moment on that God was real and Jesus Christ died for his sins.
Have you ever asked yourself who is God or what is God? God is supreme above all things.
He is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. We will never be able to comprehend the great depths of who God is. From the Bible we know that God is necessary for the creation of all things. God is a purposeful, personal, omnipotent, omnipresent, and an omniscient Being. God is one Being in three divine Persons. The Father, Son, and the Holy Sprit. God has revealed Himself in science and also in history
The Bible gives us glimpses of him and tells us about some of his characteristics, for example, his love, 1 John 4:7 and 1 John 4:16
compassion, Psalms 103:8, exodus 34:6 Joel 2:13
power Psalms 29:4, Psalms 33:9
and creativity. Genesis 1:27, Psalms 104:24, Romans 1:20
God is holy – perfect and blameless. But there are elements of God that we cannot grasp because they are just beyond our comprehension. God exists beyond our understanding of time and space.
The universe exists because he made it happen as it states in Genesis 1:17.
He is self-sufficient and self-sustaining. He does not need us. And yet we can know this God personally, even intimately, and that this is what he wants too.
The Son is Jesus Christ who lived in Israel about 2,000 years ago.
In the Bible book of John, Jesus explained the closeness of his relationship with his Father, saying ‘I and the Father are one’. In the same Bible book Jesus says, ‘anyone who has seen me has seen the Father’.
We can get an idea of what God is like by looking at Jesus’ life. The Bible books, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, record eyewitness accounts of what he said and did. We see his compassion and love for people – especially the poor and oppressed; his desire for justice; his anger with hypocrisy and wrong-doing and his self-sacrifice in being put to death even though he was innocent. During his life on Earth, Jesus was totally human, but also totally God.
God is the only self-existent being. No one created God. God exists outside of time, space, and matter. He is the only eternal being. He is the uncaused cause of the universe.
The Bible
God reveals Himself through His Word. The Bible has been heavily scrutinized for hundreds of years. If there was a huge fallacy that proved it was false don’t you think people would have found it by now? Prophecies, nature, science, and archaeological facts are all in the Scriptures.
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Isaiah 45:18 “For this is what the LORD says– he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited– he says: “I am the LORD, and there is no other.”
His Son
God reveals Himself through Jesus Christ. Jesus is God in the flesh. There are many eyewitness accounts of Jesus and His death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus performed many miracles in front of many people and Scripture prophesied about Christ.
John 1:1-4 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”
1 Timothy 3:16 “Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.”
Hebrews 1:1-2 “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.”
We know that God is real because there is a moral standard and if there is a moral standard there is a transcendent moral truth giver. Atheists make the mistake of thinking that Christians are saying that they have no morals, which is not true. The argument is where does it come from? Without God everything is just your subjective opinion. If you say something is wrong because you don’t like it, then why is that the standard?
Romans 2:14-15 “Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right.”
Eternity in our hearts.
All the things that this world has to offer will never truly satisfy us. In our hearts we know that there is more to life than this. We know that there is a life after this. We all have a sense of a “higher power.” When I was an unbeliever I had more than others in my age group, but I was never truly satisfied until I put my trust in Jesus Christ. I know now that this is not my home. I feel homesick sometimes because I long for my true home in Heaven with the Lord.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
2 Corinthians 5:8 “We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”
Answered prayers
Answered prayers show that God is real. Many Christians pray daily for needs in their lives and testify that those prayers were answered. I have prayed things that were answered by God in a way that I know it was only Him that could have done it. It is always good as a believer to have a prayer journal to write down your prayers.
1 John 5:14-15 “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”
Miracles
Miracles are great evidence for God. There are many doctors who know God is real because of the miracles that they have witnessed. There is no explanation for the many miracles that go on every day in the world. Recently we prayed with a young man who had a cast on his leg due to a football injury and he immediately began to walk with no support in our youth group, we were all amazed.
Psalm 77:14 “You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.”
Exodus 15:11 “Who among the gods is like you, LORD? Who is like you– majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?”
Changed lives
I am proof that God exists. Not only me, but all Christians. There are some people who we look at and say this person will never change. They are extremely stubborn and wicked. When wicked people repent and put their trust in Christ that is evidence that God has done a mighty work in them. When the baddest of the baddest turn to Christ you see God and that is a huge testimony.
1 Timothy 1:13-16 “Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.”
1 Corinthians 15:9-10 “For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.”
Different races
The fact that there are different races shows that God is real. If we happened by chance everyone would be the same. The fact that there are African-American people, Spanish people, Caucasian people, Chinese people, and more has a Unique Creator written all over it.
Acts 17:26 “From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.”
Bible prophecy
Fulfilled prophecy shows that there is a God and He is the author of the Bible. There were so many prophecies of Jesus that were written hundreds of years before His time like Psalm 22; Isaiah 53:10; Isaiah 7:14; Zechariah 12:10; and more. There is no way that anyone can deny these passages that were written way before Jesus’ time. Also, there are prophecies that are being fulfilled before our eyes.
Micah 5:2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Psalm 22:16-18 “Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.”
2 Peter 3:3-4 “Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
Love
Where does love come from? How do we have the ability to love someone? Why is love so powerful? That is a question that no one can answer except the Lord. The reason that you can love others is because God loved you first.
1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us.”
God leads us
As Christians we know that God is real because we feel Him leading our lives. We see God opening doors when we are in His will. Through different situations I see God working in my life. I see Him bringing out the fruits of the Spirit. Sometimes I look back and I say, “oh so that is why I went through that situation, you wanted me to get better in that area.” Christians feel His conviction when we are going in the wrong direction. There is nothing like feeling the presence of the Lord and speaking to Him in prayer.
John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
Proverbs 20:24 “A person’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand their own way?
It all comes down to faith.
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

The Holy Spirit is another aspect of God – a spiritual form of God which cannot be seen but can be experienced personally.
The Holy Spirit is the supernatural power of God that lives in us christians 1 cor 6:19.
The holly spirit also convicts the world of sin John 16:8
The Holy Spirit is a helper Who comes alongside us to guide us in our Christian walk (John 14:16).
In Acts 1:8 we learn that the Holy Spirit gives us the power to live the Christian life as a witness for God.
It is impossible to live the Christian life without the power of the Spirit within us (Romans 7:15-25, Galatians 5:17-18, Matthew 26:41).
Jesus Christ is our example of the witness that we should be (John 14:8-9).
The Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth John 16:12-13
God is all-seeing and all-knowing. We cannot hide from him. He knows our thoughts. In fact, the Bible book of Psalms says God knows us even before we are born - ‘you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb’….. ‘you have searched me and you know me… you are familiar with all my ways… before a word is on my tongue, you know it completely…’ Another Bible book, Proverbs, encourages people to honour and respect God describing it as ‘the beginning of wisdom’. God does not need our praise but it is important to him and gives him pleasure.
God made the universe and that he created men and women to share it with him.
God wanted us to have a relationship with him.
The Bible book, Genesis, says he made us ‘in his image’. He has given us the capacity to be immensely creative and to love unconditionally; we too have a sense of justice, morality and a spirituality which sets us apart from other living creatures.
God did not just create the universe and walk away. He remains intimately involved in it. He cares about people. The first book of the Bible, Genesis, tells us that even when humanity’s relationship with God went sour in the garden of Eden, he devised a rescue plan – hinting at the coming of Jesus Christ to restore that relationship.
In the years that followed, God made an agreement with a nomad living in the Middle East, Abraham, that he would become the father of a nation – the Jewish people. An encounter between God and one of Abraham’s descendant, Moses, is described in the Bible book Exodus and gives an insight into God’s otherness and awesomeness. God speaks to Moses from a bush which is on fire but not burning up. He tells Moses to take off his sandals because he is standing on holy ground. When Moses asks his name, God replies ‘I am what I am’.
Later, when the Jewish nation was being led astray by evil leaders, God inspired prophets to urge the people to return to right ways of living. The prophets also spoke of a coming Messiah – someone who would rescue them and bring them back to God. That Messiah was Jesus Christ.
There is a price to be paid for all the wrongdoing in the world. But God, in the form of Jesus, took the punishment for it on himself by being executed on a cross even though he had never done anything wrong. Christians believe that because Jesus did this, humanity can be set free from blame and be in a relationship with God for eternity. As the Bible book John says, ‘God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life’.
God remains intimately involved in the world he made. After Jesus had returned to heaven, he sent the Holy Spirit to live in people who are followers of Christ. He created the Church – a worldwide family of Christians. And he wants an ongoing relationship with all people. That’s what humanity was made for.
